How a horizontal flow wrap machine works

Products travel flat through the machine and come out wrapped, sealed and cut, one after another.

  1. 1

    Products are fed

Items arrive on the infeed conveyor, loaded by hand or by an automatic feeder.

  2. 2

    Items are spaced

Pusher flights space the products evenly and guide them towards the film.

  3. 3

    Film wraps the product

A forming box folds the film around the product to make a tube.

  4. 4

    Back seal is made

Rotating wheels seal the film along the back of the pack.

  5. 5

    Ends are sealed and cut

Crimping jaws seal both ends and cut the pack, which exits on the conveyor.

Flow wrap machine questions

What is a horizontal flow wrap machine?

It wraps solid products in a film tube, seals the pack along the back and at both ends, and cuts it. Products travel flat on a conveyor into the film, and the finished pack has the familiar pillow shape.

Which products suit a flow wrap machine?

Solid, individual items such as biscuits, cookies, bread and buns, cakes, chocolate bars, noodle blocks, soap and similar products. It is not meant for loose powders, grains or liquids. A VFFS machine suits those.

Can it pack several items in one pack?

Yes. Items can be grouped and wrapped together, for example a stack of biscuits in a single pack. Tell us the pack format and we will suggest the right setup.

What film does it use?

It uses film on a roll, such as BOPP or laminated films, chosen for the product, shelf life and look. We can guide you on the right film.

How do I choose between flow wrap and VFFS?

Choose flow wrap when your product is a solid item with a fixed shape. Choose VFFS when your product is loose, such as snacks, powders, grains or liquids. The comparison table on this page helps.

Do you install and train?

Yes. We install and test the machine at your plant, train your operators, supply genuine spares and offer service and AMC.

Can it print batch number and date on the pack?

Yes. A coding unit can be added so that every pack carries the batch number, date and price.
