How a multihead weigher works

Many small weighings happen at once, and the computer picks the best combination for each pack.

  1. 1

    Product is fed in

An inclined conveyor or bucket elevator feeds product to the top of the weigher.

  2. 2

    Product is spread out

A cone and vibrating feeders spread the product evenly across the weigh hoppers.

  3. 3

    Each hopper weighs

Every hopper weighs its small portion, and a load cell sends the weight to the controller.

  4. 4

    Best combination is chosen

The computer selects the hoppers whose combined weight is closest to your target.

  5. 5

    Product drops into the pack

The chosen hoppers discharge into the VFFS machine or another packing unit.

Weighing machine questions

What is a multihead weigher?

A multihead weigher is a fast weighing machine with many weigh hoppers arranged in a circle. A computer picks the combination of hoppers whose total is closest to your target weight and drops it into the pack. This gives accurate weights at high speed.

Which products suit a multihead weigher?

Free-flowing and fragile products such as chips, namkeen, nuts, dry fruits, confectionery, pulses and granules. Sticky or very fine products may need a different unit, such as an auger filler.

What is the difference between a multihead weigher, an auger filler and a cup filler?

A multihead weigher suits snacks and free-flowing pieces. An auger filler suits powders such as spices, flour and besan. A cup filler measures by volume and suits uniform grains and granules. A liquid filler suits liquids and pastes.

Can it work with my VFFS machine?

Yes. Multihead weighers are commonly paired with VFFS machines, and the weigher drops the product straight into the forming tube. We supply and set up the two together.

How accurate is the weight?

Accuracy depends on the product, the target weight and the number of heads. Share your pack weight and the tolerance you need, and we will recommend a machine.

Can it handle sticky products?

Some sticky or oily products need special surface finishes or settings. Tell us about your product, and we will advise whether a multihead weigher is the right choice.

Do you install and train?

Yes. We install and test the unit with your product, train your operators, supply genuine spares and offer service and AMC.
